Indie Media Review: Word of Mouth

by Rachel Blood

Word of Mouth is a monthly zine published online and in print that is dedicated to informing all of its readers about the underground music that can be found in Pennsylvania. In their own words, the publication’s editors and writers are, “passionate about supporting not only local music, but all underground music and art.”

Anyone who is interested in the local music scene should check out the zine. It’s filled with information. The band interviews are especially interesting because not only do they provide insight into the bands, but they also provide information about upcoming performances and album releases. The CD reviews are also excellent, and honest. Whether the reviewers really like a band or not, they don’t sugar coat anything.  They tell it like they see it.

The impression that I’m left with after looking over the zine’s website and checking out the MySpace page is that overall, the publication is a fun and well-run publication.  Love of music comes across in the writing.   Unfortunately, I was not able to obtain the staff’s

direct input for this article, but based on everything I’ve seen, I would say to anyone who is interested local underground music to go to the website for Word of Mouth and support

another local independent publication.

The Scranton-based band formed in 2005 and released its debut album, The Abuse of Information Technology, on the New York-based punk label Go-Kart...
